Best Buy is advertising $530 in savings on this compact ASUS gaming laptop, but the headline discount does not tell the whole story. The hardware itself, however, makes the ROG Zephyrus G14 worth a closer look.
If you have been shopping for a gaming laptop that sits somewhere between a bulky desktop replacement and an ultrabook that happens to play games, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 remains one of the more interesting machines in the middle.

Best Buy lists a comparable value of $2,299.99, making the current price appear to be a substantial $530 discount.
There is a little more to the story, though.
The $530 Discount Needs Some Context
This is one of those deals where looking beyond the retailer’s crossed-out price is important.
When ASUS announced this particular RTX 5060 configuration of the Zephyrus G14, model GA403UM-G14.R9HX4, the company listed an MSRP of $1,799.99. That means today’s $1,769.99 Best Buy price is only about $30 below the machine’s original suggested retail price.
In other words, we would not call this a $530 discount in the traditional sense.
That does not necessarily make it a bad purchase. Gaming laptop pricing has moved around considerably, and what matters more is what $1,770 buys you compared with the alternatives available today.
Best Buy advertises $530 in savings against a $2,299.99 comparable value, but ASUS originally listed this exact configuration at $1,799.99. We would treat $1,769.99 as a reasonable current price for the hardware rather than a once-in-a-year clearance deal.
What You Get for $1,769
The biggest reason to consider the G14 is that ASUS is not simply putting an RTX 5060 into an inexpensive plastic gaming chassis.
The Zephyrus line is positioned as a more premium portable gaming platform, and this configuration combines:

The OLED Display May Be the Real Selling Point
Plenty of less expensive gaming laptops can give you respectable CPU and GPU performance. The 3K OLED ROG Nebula display is one of the things separating the G14 from more conventional midrange machines.
The 14-inch panel runs at 2880 x 1800 with a 120Hz refresh rate, 0.2ms advertised response time and up to 500 nits of brightness. ASUS also lists 100% DCI-P3 coverage, G-SYNC, Dolby Vision and Pantone validation.
That combination makes the laptop interesting beyond gaming. Photo work, video editing and general media consumption should benefit from the OLED panel’s contrast and color reproduction.
There is one important reality check, however: an RTX 5060 Laptop GPU is not going to run every demanding game at native 2880 x 1800 resolution with every setting maxed out.
For newer AAA games, DLSS, frame generation or reducing the internal rendering resolution will often make more sense. The display gives you the flexibility to have an extremely sharp desktop while still adjusting game settings when additional performance is needed.
Portable Gaming Is Where the G14 Makes Its Case
Perhaps the strongest argument for spending more on the Zephyrus is its size.
Best Buy lists the machine at approximately 0.63 inches thick and 3.31 pounds. That is considerably easier to carry than many high-performance gaming laptops and helps make the G14 a legitimate everyday laptop rather than something that spends most of its life plugged into a desk.
ASUS still equips it with a fairly serious cooling system, including liquid metal on the CPU and second-generation Arc Flow fans.
That does not eliminate the laws of physics. Packing an eight-core CPU and discrete NVIDIA GPU into a chassis this small means heat and fan noise remain part of the compromise.
That is also reflected in Best Buy’s customer feedback. The laptop currently holds a strong overall rating, with buyers frequently praising performance, portability and the OLED display while heat dissipation and fan noise appear among the more common complaints.
The 16GB of Soldered RAM Is the Biggest Catch
There is one specification that gives us considerably more hesitation than the RTX 5060: 16GB of memory.
The LPDDR5X memory is fast, but it is soldered to the motherboard and there is no traditional RAM slot available for future upgrades.
For gaming and normal everyday use, 16GB remains workable. Someone spending nearly $1,800 on a premium laptop in 2026, however, may reasonably expect 32GB—especially if the machine will also be used for content creation, virtual machines, development work or local AI workloads.
That limitation is permanent.
If you already know your workload regularly pushes beyond 16GB, we would skip this configuration rather than buying it with plans to upgrade later.
What About Local AI?
The RTX 5060’s 8GB of dedicated VRAM gives this laptop some useful AI capability, particularly for accelerated creative applications, smaller local models and experimentation with NVIDIA’s CUDA ecosystem.
But this should not be mistaken for a dedicated local-AI workstation.
Eight gigabytes of VRAM will quickly become restrictive with larger language models, image-generation workloads and more ambitious AI projects. Buyers primarily interested in local AI would generally benefit more from additional GPU memory than from the G14’s thin chassis and premium OLED display.
For someone who primarily wants a portable gaming laptop and considers AI capability a bonus, the balance makes considerably more sense.
Who Should Buy the Zephyrus G14?
At $1,769.99, we think the strongest buyer for this machine is someone who wants one laptop to handle school, work, travel and gaming without carrying around a massive gaming notebook.
You are paying for more than frame rates. Part of the price goes toward the CNC-machined aluminum chassis, low weight, OLED screen and portability.
If your gaming laptop rarely leaves a desk, there are larger systems that may offer more GPU performance per dollar. Likewise, shoppers simply looking for the cheapest way into RTX 5060 gaming should look farther down the market.
But if the goal is something closer to a premium ultraportable that happens to contain a capable gaming GPU, the Zephyrus G14 occupies a much more interesting niche.
